Footprints in the snow (wet ones)

16th January 2020

(Above) An overnight thaw, with the fluctuating temperatures bringing rain/ snow at most elevations. Still ongoing for much of the day – my wet footprints on the path back out from Coire Ardair at around 500m

(Above) Poor visibility for much of the day – Pinnacle Buttress and the Post Face (behind the base of Easy Gully) all with new snow on ledges and benches.

(Above) Coire Ardair drumlins looking sharp in the thaw.

(Above) Some single pt release, wet snow events (shadowed areas) noted today at around 850m on NE aspects.  Small events in the main, resulting from rain on new snow (and falling debris from the shallow, faint slope cornice lines above) during the period. The moist snowpack is now consolidated and a cooling trend will re-freeze the existing accumulations at these elevations.
