Blowing snow and sunshine to end

12th February 2020

(Above) ….from yesterday’s blog

“I wonder how many people have abandoned their winter mountain day just a 100m or so after breaking out from the immature birch shown here?…….”

Don’t know – but there was nearly one more…. Me!!

(Above) Glad I didn’t …  some early birders on their way back down with tracks for me to follow 🙂

Skis for access the best option for sure. I think these two had a bit more of the blowing snow to deal with than me – the day improving as it went on with plenty of sunshine.

Still, a good effort on their part and useful miles I’m sure for their BMG winter test coming up in March. Thanks for the tracks and good luck with the test guys…

(Above) Deep drifts around – this one on an Easterly aspect. Some consolidation is now taking place but weaknesses nonetheless showing in the deep slab .

(Above) Plenty of sunshine to end  – and blowing snow as well!

More settled weather is now coming in – although cool with variable winds, which will retain the ability to build some new slab in high sheltered lee locations.
