Hard rain’s gonna fall

13th January 2007

Really wet on the hill today. Forecasted overnight snowfall turned out to be heavy rain at pretty much all altitudes. There was some wet slab avalanche action in Coire Choile Rais at 1.00pm and evidence of recent cornice collapse. This particular corrie has a remote feel but is fairly easy to get to and, in the right conditions, a pleasant short ski tour (certainly not today).

Came across some Extreme Kayakers today enjoying their “sport” in the wildly swollen burn that drains off Beinn a Chaorainn. Lunatic death plunges down waterfalls seems to be their thing. Totally bonkers.

Tomorrow looks like being another one of those avalanchey ‘rain on new snow’ days. Snowfall projections for Sunday are at the top of our scale (but for a limited time) to be followed by mild temperatures and rain. Enjoy.
