The full bifta…..winter returns

2nd January 2007

A good winter cover today with snow down to 450m. Enough cover (apparently) for a lone ski tourer to brave the rocks hidden by soft snow and bimble around the Carn Liath plateau area. The walk-in was fine until about 650m when the deep drifts of unconsolidated snow hindered progress.

Was lucky enough to follow recent tracks made by Bambi and her mates through waist deep snow (tracks visible centre of photo).

The Post Face was well plastered with fresh snow and all gullies well filled with deep new snow (many with recent avalanche and cornice debris). A big meltdown is expected tomorrow (Weds).

The rapid transition to plus values (degrees C.) and heavy rain overnight and on Wednesday will strip away much of this cover and bring on a lot of avalanche activity.

Bambi (looking pretty smug) back down at Aberarder Farm after a hard day on the hill.
