Friday; snow cover & ice

22nd January 2010

(Above) Carn Liath summit from Sron a Ghoire.
Excellent plateau cover at the moment so now might be the time to do that ski-tour that you promised yourself a couple of week’s ago.

(Above) Looking down from Sron a Ghoire towards Aberarder Farmhouse and Loch Laggan.

Good skiing/skinning above 600m (and do-able down to 500/450m). Lots of different descents/ascents possible at the moment. Doing ‘the round’ (Carn Liath – Creag Meagaidh – Sron a Ghoire or Moy) recommended.

(Above) Looking in to Easy Gully with ‘Last Post’ and ‘South Post’ prominent. No reports of ice quality on Last Post but the yo-yoing freezing level should help the ice become a little more ‘plastic’.
