Cover bit depleted – but still good Ski touring

10th March 2014

(Above) Approaching plateau areas from Eastern Laggan end of the range –  above Spey Dam. Bit of a grunt and a carry to start before skis on at around 700m
(NB An initial clean set of ‘Mountain Spirit’ heels on display – soon to be reeled in!)

(Above) Although many cornice lines are down still some large shaky looking features remaining – that’s the snow I’m referring to!

(Above) Passing top end of Coire Dubh – good cover if a little scoured underfoot

(Above) Debris mostly from collapsed cornices littering many coire floors

(Above) Min Window –  much depleted snow on shoulder slopes of Cairn Liath (Aberarder side) off plateau seen in the background

(Above) Exiting plateau areas via Min Window – descent to coire floor to hit path back to Aberarder (acceptable if you don’t mind deep wet ‘spring’ snow in narrowing gully lines in lower reaches!)
