Hound not found

21st March 2014

(Above) The main path up Coire Ardair. Snowy today, quite a contrast to Thursday. 10cm of undrifted snow at 400m with much more forming in drifts above 800m.

Came across a couple on the main path who were in search of a black labrador in terrible weather. The couple run a B&B in Newtonmore and one of their guests lost touch with the dog yesterday somewhere below The Window in the Inner Coire. (The weather was awful yesterday so that’s not too surprising.) This very considerate and concerned couple saw the dog near the base of Easy Gully just as it avalanched at 9.30am but unfortunately the dog, alarmed by their presence (not the avalanche, apparently…), bolted up Easy Gully at great speed. It was glimpsed somewhere near the top of the gully a couple of minutes later but there have been no further sightings.

If you’re out and about in our areas and see the dog please report your sighting to the SNH staff at Aberarder farmhouse. Offer it some food, poor thing must be ravenous.
