Monday: more excellent overhead conditions.
29th December 2014
(Above) Hillwalkers en route to the summit of Carn Liath, a popular Munro. Creag Meagaidh comparatively busy with hillwalkers and skiers who enjoyed excellent high level travel conditions, though probably better for skiers.
(Above) Great conditions for ski-touring. Two ski-tourers just visible upper centre of shot. This pair missed out the usual ascent to Carn Liath and began skinning from the main Coire Ardair path more or less immediately below the Min Window (the re-entrant right of shot). Also saw ascent ski tracks on Sron a Ghoire. Was a lovely day for it.
(Above) This shows the typical amount of snow (and windslab) we have on steep E to SE aspects above 700m at the moment. The cornices are quite large and extensive in these places too. The top of the rocky boss on the extreme left of shot is at 1000m.
(Above) No climbers noted in any of the gullies or crags today. The Post Face is a direct East aspect.
Quite a lot of uncertainty over projected freezing levels for Tuesday – could be warmer near summits which in turn will have an effect on snow stability.

Thanks, Grant.
‘Meggie is very photogenic when the suns shines, the sky is blue and there’s snow around…..less so when it’s dreich and the snow line is pinned back to 900m! We try to post on the blog most days but conditions are not always quite so conducive for photography as they have been recently.
Again, very many thanks for your comment.

Fantastic day to be out, but not quite perfect on skis just yet. I went round from Carn Liath to Sron a Ghoire and there was a fair bit of wind scoured ridge and plateau in the way. Doesn’t matter when the weather was that good though!

Skiing down the window was a delight. A good start to the season. Blue skies and a decent covering. Who could ask for more!
