Yesterday’s Wet Snow Avalanches

17th February 2016

Light winds and some sunshine gave for a very different day to yesterday. There were some substantial wet snow avalanches yesterday, the most obvious one was on the shoulder of Sron a Choire. This is easily visible from the Aberarder carpark.

Looking up Sron a Ghoire. Debris from a wet snow avalanche which occurred some time yesterday visible on the left. The crown wall is not very obvious, but runs along parallel and just below the area in the shade.

Some substantial blocks of debris.

The debris field with a few centimetres fresh snow on top. I found that the photo’s were clearer when I used the “dramatic” setting on my camera, and that is why there is a lack of colour a couple of these pictures.

Looking snowy in Coire Ardair. Although hard to make out here, there did look to be avalanche debris below the Window. I might investigate further tomorrow.

I look forward to see tomorrows debris below the window. The continued high hazard warning seems very much worth noting of late.
