(Above) Access options into the coire not that great today. Foot solider and stay in the deep trench (which peters out by end of old birch) or alternatively skis – and negotiate the breakable crust with deep soft and occasional ‘man hole’ traps below. Either way ski the best travel option.

(Above) Sweaty access perhaps no bad thing at present – many East facing coire backwalls are overhung with cornices, which in all probability are likely to come down in the ensuing thaw conditions – some of these cornices are quite large and have potential to bring wet snow events down to coire floors……

(Above) Some winter skills groups out and about in the area today (btm left of photo) As good a venue choice as any at present – on the side wall of Coire Ardair, just to the left of Balloon Gully – snow to play in and a bit of a wind scoured crest above, for higher access to plateau. Good effort in the conditions!!
