Dances With Clouds

21st December 2021

(Above) Looking down to the cloud inversion covering the A9 from the top end of Coire Fahr in the Drumochter hills. Lovely day above the cloud inversion but quite gloomy down in the glen and further north in Strathspey. A’Bhuidheanach 879m and Meall a Chaorainn 916m just visible above the inversion line on the far skyline. Was cold in the shade and the clear skies meant – where there was old snow – a very cold surface temperature of -6.7 degrees C..

(Above) Fast access today on this vehicle track though when it’s snowy it all but disappears here.

(Above) The bulky mass of Ben Alder viewed from the bealach near Coire Fahr. The short and long Leachas ridges are on the far right of the photo.  Loch Ericht was completely masked by the low-lying mist/cloud. Dribs and drabs of old snow in vertical ribbons in favoured high glens and coire rims – fairly typical of the current snow distribution we have at Creag Meagaidh, Ben Alder’s near neighbour.

Great photos! Any Haggii to be seen circling the hills?

Haha! No, they’re elusive wee beasties!
