Colder and clearer, peaks still hidden.

16th January 2023

Today was cold, around -7 degrees Celsius on the summits. A moderate westerly wind added windchill making it feel bitterly cold high up. Snow was continuing to drift although in smaller quantities than in yesterdays strong winds. Cold conditions maintain instabilities in the snowpack so the forecast for tomorrow is very similar to today’s. No new snow is expected tomorrow, although it will remain very cold. More snowfall is due on Wednesday though. The peaks remained hidden for most of today, although visibility was good at lower levels.

Looking at the South-East and East aspects of Coire a Chriochairein. There is unnstable windslab present in these gullies with cornices visible above.

The South aspects of the same coire hold less snow. There has been scouring in places from the recent winds.

As close to I got to seeing the Post Face  in Coire Ardair today.

The view across Loch Laggan on my return. Visibility was generally good at lower levels today.
