Sron a Ghoire
18th January 2023
(Above) Blowing snow at 700m on Sron a Ghoire this morning. Quite wintry all morning even after snowfall.
(Above) The upper layers of the snowpack in most recent lee areas. Several weaknesses within the new windslab. All these sheared readily when excavating a hasty snow pit. No surprise then that there was some avalanche activity this morning at the eastern edge of the SAIS Creag Meagaidh forecasting area.
(Above) Old avalanche debris (from last weekend?) on this steep E to ESE aspect.
(Above) Looking back down to Aberarder and Loch Laggan.
Quite a complicated snowpack: new snow weaknesses in addition to deep-seated instability issues.
