A good start

23rd February 2023

Today started as a fine cold day with some good views. The snow old snowpack is well bonded and firm with a very thin covering of new snow. As the day progressed the cloud came in (just before I reached the tops!) and the freezing level rose. The fresh snow has already begun to thaw in the milder weather. After some rain in the first part of the night the freezing level is due to drop again to give colder conditions tomorrow.

Looking towards the window and the inner coire in Coire Ardair, Creagh Meagidh.

From left to right, Bellevue buttress, Pinnacle Buttress and the Post Face in Coire Ardair.

Coire a Chriochaiein, Creag Meagidh.

Coire a Chriochairein on the approach this morning. Very limited fresh snow on the Southerly aspects in the foreground.

Unfortunately the cloud had come in by the time I reached the summits today. Only a thin covering of fresh snow which will thaw in the warmer temperatures in the first half of the night. Some indication of wind transportation of snow with a greater build up behind rocks and on the left of the picture. However  any accumulations of fresh snow on the steeper East facing slopes were very shallow.
