Mild and damp

15th February 2024

It was a damp and mild day with the freezing level above the summits. It rained through most of the day, never particularly heavy but certainly enough to get wet in. The snowpack is thawing at all levels and whilst there has been snow loss over the last 24 hours, significant accumulations still remain.

The mild temperatures are set to continue so more snow loss is to be expected. Rock and ice fall will remain a hazard and unstable cornices will be prone to collapse.

Sròn a’ Choire. This can be compared with the photo on yesterday’s blog to get an idea of the snow loss within the last 24 hours. https://meagaidhblog.sais.gov.uk/2024/02/notable-absence-of-wind/

Looking down at Lochan a’Choire, with the bottom of the buttresses in Coire Ardair making a brief appearance.

Some ice holding on at around 600 metres.
