Unrelenting thaw
27th December 2024
(Above) Lochan a Choire and the crags that overlook it in upper Coire Ardair. Misty with persistent, drenching drizzle for much of the morning but marginally brighter later. Mild again, very mild.
(Above) The Inner Coire of Coire Ardair & The Window centre. Uninspiring in every sense today!
(Above) Centre of shot. Debris from a small (size 1) full depth avalanche on the the crag apron between ‘Cinderella’ and The Window. Most likely slid sometime on Christmas Eve during very mild conditions a day or so after heavy drifting onto NE-facing aspects.

Well done for managing to identify some avalanche related activity in such frugal conditions – and do I see a snow patch above and beyond the debris resembling a helicopter banking steeply up towards the Cinderella cliffs or is my inner Yukigata just running amok…..!

Rorschach snow patch test bingo?
Helicopter?….I see a leaping deer in picture #3.

DefinItely – not a Sea King or Chinook but more a Eurocopter Dolphin – helicopter blades are set parallel to the slope leading down to The Window, with the cockpit bulging below, a narrow pointed nose orientated to the cliffs and a thin rear section leading to the tail rotor… Does your deer have enormous antlers and is doing a loop-the-loop? I suppose we all interpret images differently?

Leaping stag…running up hill?
Edit. I see your helicopter now! Same image! As you say, we all see things differently.

Or a A109 Da Vinci maybe? A slightly higher cabin and made to REGAs (Swiss Rescue Services) strict specifications. I will get my coat… (Or anorak).
