Thawing
3rd February 2025
The visibility made observations challenging today but an avalanche was observed coming down the lower section of the Post Face while walking into the coire (photo below). It felt like Creag Meagaidh was right on the West / East divide for rain today with light rain for the majority of the day, but with periods of heavier rain.
The snowpack is currently thawing at all levels so there will be less cover than in the photos below by tomorrow morning.

Avalanche observed today at 1045 on approach into the coire. There was also evidence of debris higher up in Easy Gully, most likely from similar events higher up the Post Face.

The journey continued up into the Inner Coire to see if any other debris was visible. It wasn’t. That doesn’t mean it wasn’t there, it just wasn’t seen! Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence.

As good as the views got today. Great to bump into a group of instructors and leaders engaging in CPD with an SAIS Senior Forecaster. These courses are a joint partnership between The Chris Walker Memorial Trust and the Scottish Avalanche Information Service.
