Binnein Shuas
30th March 2025
The small hill of Binnein Shuas is well known by climbers. Here the much loved Classic Rock route Ardverikie Wall rises majestically on it’s Southern aspect, overlooking the twin lochs of Lochan na h-earba. The summit of this small hill will be overlooked by many, only rising to a lowly 746m; but what it lacks in height it sure makes up for as an impressive viewpoint overlooking the many Munros both North and South.
The morning was overcast, but by mid-day the temperature had risen and the cloud started to break leaving a ‘Spring like’ day with warm, sunny spells. Snow on sun affected aspects was receding rapidly and even on the more Northerly, shady aspects the rising of the snow line was evident.
A warm, dry day in prospect tomorrow as high pressure dominates the weather. Expect further snow loss in the Creag Meagaidh area.
Pictures below give you a ‘flavour’ of what remains of winter.
The summit cairn on Binnein Shuas (746m) with the Southern aspects of the Creag Meagaidh massif beyond.
Looking across from Binnein Shuas to the Northern slopes of the Munro Geal Charn (1049m)
The North-East facing corrie of Beinn a Chlachair (1087m). The snow cover here is representative of the whole area – mainly confined to corrie rims and steep ground on N through E to South-East aspects.
The SE facing Moy Corrie with summit of Meall Coire Choille-Rais (1027m) on the left hand side of the photo. Some much older ‘historical’ snow patches visible on the back rim of the corrie.
Looking across to Beinn a Chaoriann. The NE Ridge clearly visible in the centre of the photo.
The Project | Earba Storage – Pumped Storage Hydro Project
Industrial sized new gates on the access track to Lochan na h-earba. The area is going to look very different in the future.

Ha – yet another cairn to add to this seasons mounting collection……
Recall many “joyous days upon the mountainsides” climbing at Binnean Shuas – somehow I doubt it will have the same ambiance once this project is realised…….
