Damp and misty but a bit of wintry weather in prospect.
27th March 2025
(Above) The Post Face of Coire Ardair and Lochan a Choire today. Damp and misty conditions prevailed with approx 10mm of rainfall at Creag Meagaidh over the forecast period. Minor waterfalls present on the Post Face. Scant snow cover.
(Above) Easy Gully. The ribbon of old snow has finally succumbed to the wet, mild conditions and is now broken and very narrow. Free water aplenty today.
(Above) The Inner Coire of Coire Ardair and The Window. More or less devoid of old snow. The Window, the bealach centre of shot, tops out at circa 950m and if the weather forecast comes good there could be some new wind-drifted snow high up on its East-facing approach slope. It’ll be forming on bare ground so unlikely to present much hazard due to the anchoring effect of the ground surface and relative warmth at the snow/ground interface.
(Above) Coire a Chriochairein through the mist and sheeting rain. Steep ENE through to ESE aspects in this coire with at least a few remnants of old snow above 950m. Any new drifted snow forming here (on the old snow) could offer a little more in the way of avalanche hazard in these and similar places, particularly if it achieves reasonable depth. Some early cornice development is also possible high on the coire rim. Below 950mm, there’s likely to be an innocuous covering of fresh snow down as low as 750m in most locations by the end of the day.
