Snow sitrep at Beinn a Chaorainn et al

7th March 2025

(Above) The East Ridge of Beinn a Chaorainn this morning. The ridge itself is pretty much snow-free save for the last few metres up to the summit area.

(Above) The wide coire to the S of the East Ridge. Snow cover is really patchy here now and pinned back to altitudes above circa 850m/900m. There are still a few intact cornices around the rim of the coire but many have either slumped or are partially collapsed. Rockfall heard at midday in this coire today.

(Above) The view across to the Creag Meagaidh summit massif with Coire nan Laogh, the prominent water-cut feature, left of centre. The ground visible here is S or W facing and pretty much devoid of snow but there will be more old snow on N to E aspects.

(Above) Left to right: Looking across to Aonach Beag 1116m and Beinn Eibhinn

(Above) One of  the SAIS’s Senior Forecaster was over on The Fara nr Dalwhinnie and sent me a couple of shots of the snow cover over on the hulking mass of Ben Alder left of centre. Lancet Edge just to the right of it. (Thanks, Gillian!)

(Above) Lancet Edge again on the left with the multi-summited Geal Charn (1132m, 1114m & 1107m) in the centre of the shot.
