Poor Viz and Heavy Snowfall

6th January 2026

Very limited views today due to the flat light and low cloud. Winter is certainly here with significant snowfall today, milder conditions  and a lowering freezing level should help consolidate the snow somewhat which should help with travel on ski and on foot.

Heading up the Moy Burn on the South side of Creag Meagaidh – pretty hard going in the deep snow.

Blessed are the trail breakers, as they will follow the snowless path to enlightenment…..! I can imagine it would have been quite a slog on the hill today, with challenging road conditions making even getting on the hill quite a success. Hopefully a more stable period of weather will allow the heavy snowfalls to consolidate, ease access and give a prolonged period of good climbing conditions. Based on last winter, we have to be optimistic that this snow will hang around now for the rest of the season.

Replying on 07/01/26: Good to hear from you again, Keith! I’ve shamelessly plagiarised your opening phrase for Wednesday’s blog headline: a perfect fit for today’s conditions, too.
