The full white room experience.

14th January 2026

Quite slabby snow was building on any aspect with N on it today. Localised for the time being but expected to become more widespread above 900m over the next forecast period. And segueing nicely…we have quite a lot of snowfall for our area in the weather forecast + some wind so careful and conservative route choice is best advised on Thursday. Cornices also expected to become more of an issue too.

Underfoot conditions have improved a bit over the last 24hrs. The breakable crust firmed up a little below 800m but can still be quite treacherous in places on snow patches. There’s a lot of partially exposed heather/vegetation so it’s perfectly possible to make upward progress without too much distress.  Quite different though above 850m where there was a fair amount of firm snow-ice in between the drifts of snow.

Limited photographic opportunities due to quite gloomy, misty conditions above 750m all day.

(Above) The only reasonable contrast above 850m! The wee peaty lochan beside the entrance to the Min Window. Frozen solid? Not sure, so I didn’t chance an excursion across it as it could have morphed into an impromptu wild swim…and I didn’t have my swimming bonnet and water wings.

(Above) 850m. Drifted pretty much continuously above this altitude in the strengthening SSW winds.
