Poor visibility

15th February 2026

It had snowed heavily overnight with significant new accumulations at higher elevations. There was fresh snow beside the road in the morning, but as the freezing level rose to around 750 metres, this was thawing throughout the day. Creag Meagaidh car park was, as expected given the weather, much quieter than yesterday. All the cars that wanted to park found a space in the main car park with plenty room for more too!

The visibility was poor today with little opportunity for photographs.

The East facing flanks of Meall Coire Choille-rais. This was taken at around 550 metres.

A brighter spell beneath the cloud base. The Western end of Loch Laggan. The hill just catching what looks like a bit of sun is Meall Còs Chàrnan (618m).

A brief spell of better visibility revealed the cliffs in Coire Collie-Rais. There is a lochan in the bottom of the coire and it would have been quite easy to walk into it today given the lack of visibility, poor definition and fresh snow covering it.
