Sunny and calm
17th February 2026
This was one of those exceptional winter days and a complete contrast to yesterday, with those out and about able to enjoy superb visibility. It had snowed to low elevations overnight, accompanied by very strong Northerly winds. In the early hours the skies cleared and the winds eased to leave a dry and bright day.
Expect gale force South-Easterly winds tomorrow. It will be dry but there will be redistribution of the existing snow, forming windslab in wind-sheltered places, while leaving wind exposed areas scoured and firm.
Creag Meagaidh area from a distance following the fresh snow that had fallen overnight. The high point on the left of the image is Puist Coire Ardair and ‘The Window’ is the low point on the skyline to the right of the image.
The snow cover at 600 metres. This cheery team were looking forward to a glorious round of the hills in the Creag Meagaidh area.
