A mild and thouroughly wet day today at all altitudes. Was expecting some limited snowfall but none appeared whilst I was on the hill. Noticeable snow loss again, however what we have on NW to NE aspects is deep enough to resist (for the time being) the ravages of the thaw. Elsewhere, the effective snowline is at about 850m but lower in favoured areas just mentioned.
The snowpack will firm up everywhere overnight as temperatures fall at all elevations. A little snowfall in the forecast for Thursday evening but not expecting much in the way of new build up on lee slopes. Friday looking like a much better, clearer day.
(Above) The crags, buttreses and gullies at the top end of Coire Ardair. Visibility was poor for much of the morning though it did improve a little around midday.
(Above) Raeburn’s Gully. Broken about 1/3rd of the way up.
(Above) Easy Gully. Plenty of free water evident here but the gully remains complete.
(Above) The Inner Coire and The Window.
(Above) Limited snow cover on the E and ESE aspects of Coire Chriochairein. Better visibility for a time just as I was exiting.
