Winter Returns!

12th March 2026

A sudden return to winter, with vicious squalls of snow. A huge amount of precipitation overnight did not produce much snow on the mountains because the freezing level was above the summits through the night with rain on the tops. Things only really started to change late morning with the freezing level gradually lowering  and snowfall gradually falling to lower elevations. Consequently the snowpack at the time of observation was fairly moist and shallow but stable. Snowpack stability will change though as the freezing level drops tonight and falls to around 400m or so Friday, snow cover will develop becoming deeper and more widespread.
