Good Friday

3rd April 2026

Storm Dave is likely to make a noisy entrance late on Saturday when we’re expecting stronger winds and a bout of heavier snowfall. Likely to impact our area from about lunchtime onwards when there’ll be a wind shift and a noticeable uptick in snowfall. If you have mountain plans for Saturday you will almost certainly want to factor all this in to your schedule for the day.

We had some snowfall overnight, a temperature spike and as a consequence some minor wet surface snow instability on a couple of N aspects at about 4am today. Later, colder weather help consolidate the snow everywhere giving Low hazard. We were forecast some snowfall but there was little evidence of it whilst I was on the hill but of course it may have made an entrance a little later.

(Above)  Pinnacle Buttress and the Post Face of Coire Ardair today.

(Above) Steep N aspects in upper Coire Ardair. Loose snow debris present in the broad gully in the centre of the picture. Debris was quite wide down low but quite shallow and a result of a bout of surface instability triggered by a temperature rise after drifting overnight.

(Above) Raeburn’s Gully. Also the site of some overnight surface wet snow instability but too small to classify as an avalanche. The debris was on the big white snow triangle at the top of the gully.

(Above) Easy Gully and the Post Face of Coire Ardair. The site of now quite old avalanche and cornice debris.

(Above) The NNE-facing crags of the Inner Coire, and The Window far right. The approach to The Window expected to get much firmer, if not icy, overnight in addition to new windslab build up.

(Above) Looking out of the Inner Coire across to Lochan a Choire and Coire nan Gamhna. Overnight cover of fresh snow down to 750m in our area.
