Notable absence of wind
14th February 2024
There was a notable absence of wind today, which made for a very pleasant day on the hill, although it felt eerily quiet at times to be without the noise of the wind howling around the coire. Since there was no wind, there was no drifting snow to be seen, but there was plenty of evidence of the drifting that has occurred over the preceding days.
The tops were visible early in the day, providing a good overview of the current snow distribution.
The landscape looks very wintery at present. However, much of the low lying snow will disappear over the next 24 hours, with rain expected and the freezing level to remain above the summits.

Congratulations on achieving celebrity status – at last I hear you say! Your Inner Coire avalanche photos from Monday are featured on the BBC News website today. No doubt you’ll have your camera at the ready over the next few days to capture the collapse of the threatening cornices which you observed today.
