A glorious winters day

9th January 2025

A cold but spectacular winters day. Tough going on foot due to the widespread cover of unconsolidated snow, quite deep in places especially above 700m or so, sometimes waist deep in places !

Great forecast for the next couple of days !

Quite a lot of drifting during the day has built up areas of unstable deep windslab, mostly this is in wind sheltered places and fairly shallow in angle, but I would be wary of these deposits in any steep terrain ( 30+ deg) and would aim to avoid these areas.
