Bright sunny day

24th December 2025

It was a lovely bright day and the clear conditions enabled me to have good views of Coire Ardair and adjacent ground.  The remaining snow is firm and stable throughout. It lies mainly around coire rims, on steep upper slopes and at the tops of gullies above 950 metres on North to East aspects. The greatest extent lies around Coire Ardair.

The dry air means the ‘effective’ or wet bulb temperature (https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/blog/2025/what-wet-bulb-temperatures-are-and-what-they-are-used-for ) is sub-zero at altitudes where the snow is lying leading to firm frozen snow surfaces.  A slip or trip is not a good idea given the steep serious run outs below.
