More crust down low.

16th January 2026

Crust (and partially snow-covered heather) predominate below about 800m after a warm blip after snowfall then a re-freeze. Hence, progress uphill is tiring until plateau areas are reached. The main Coire Ardair path offers faster foot traffic as – although snowy – it is pretty well trodden.

Snow in many places continues to consolidate but residual, now localised, instability persists in places up high. See the report/forecast for details.

(Above) The view down to Aberarder and Loch Laggan. Heathery snow abounds above 650m.

(Above) The view down towards Lochan a Choire (obscured) Raeburn’s Gully and Easy Gully. Quite misty for a time but visibility did improve briefly later.
