Evolution of a view through The Window.

24th January 2026

25+ vehicles in the Creag Meagaidh car park today with many of those visitors seeking out steep challenges on the crags and gullies at the end of Coire Ardair. Light but persistent drifting across plateau areas noted even though no snow fell out of the sky. Scoured areas – especially above 850m – were hard and/or crusty with good expanses of snow-ice. Visibility wasn’t the best (again) with the cloudbase flirting with the 800m contour.

Windslab was a developing problem today with some cross loading too. Was not extensive at the time of reporting but weak nevertheless. This trend is expected to be enhanced overnight and right through Sunday if the forecasted snowfall appears.

(Above) Lochan a Choire and the crags & gullies of the Post Face et al at the end of Coire Ardair. The mantle of mist didn’t change much all day.

(Above) ‘Where’s Wally?’ The entrance to Easy Gully on the Post Face of Coire Ardair this morning. A popular venue today. See how many winter mountaineers you can find. Good snow-ice in places here.

(Above) The summit of The Window at 940m. Abrupt transition from hard snow-ice to a very different snow type when breaching the bealach from the Coire Ardair side. Recently drifted snow here on the wind sheltered western side. My footprints filled in quite quickly behind me and had all but disappeared when I returned sometime later.

(Above) The NNE-facing crags of the Inner Coire dotted with several spectral winter mountaineers and climbers. How many can you find in the photo? Total up the climbers in this shot and the earlier one of Easy Gully. Put your answer in the The Comments below. First to give the correct answer gets a small prize.

(Below) 5 second time lapse. The ‘view’ down towards the lower part of the Inner Coire and Lochan a Choire from close to The Window at around midday.

Winner! 12 in Easy Gully and 7 in the Inner Coire.
      I’ll send you an email.

Edit: 25/01/26. I sent an email, Nathan, but have not heard back from you!

Generous, but I was a couple of hundred metres away from Easy Gully and maybe 100m away from the scene captured in the Inner Coire.
