Breezy

30th January 2026

Plenty of evidence of scouring after the prolonged south easterly airflow and, not surprisingly, there’s very good snow stability on most windward slopes. There’s been drifting too and quite often the transition from hard underfoot conditions to wind drifted snow is really abrupt in some places.  It’s quite crusty below 750m but better/firmer above this altitude where you’re less likely to punch through with each footstep. Winds are due to ease a little over the course of Saturday but drifting will continue for a time and the weaker windslab we have on steep SW to N aspects above 900m will get an additional top up.

(Below) Bealach a Bharnish. Quite ‘spicy’ airflow above 800m with more or less continuous drifting today.
