Fresh snow

11th February 2026

There was fresh snow lying down to around 500 metres this morning. When walking on patches of old snow between 600 metres and 800 metres, it was hard going as the old snow had firmed up enough to form a crust over the moist snow underneath. Sometimes it was supporting the weight of a person, other times it didn’t. Above 800 metres, the old snow was firm and icy.

There was drifting snow above 800 metres. Fresh deposits of windslab were not extensive but unstable accumulations were building in wind-sheltered locations.

The cloud base was around 800 metres for much of the morning. It did start to clear through the afternoon with some brighter spells developing.

The buttresses were in cloud for most of the morning but started to reveal themselves around midday. Lochan a’ Choire, and from left to right, the lower sections of Bellevue Buttress, Pinnacle Buttress and Great Buttress.

This team were having a late start but they can be excused as they are off for a few nights out on a Creag Meagaidh mini-break.
