Sunshine and views

19th March 2026

A stunning day to be in the mountains!

Today’s observations involved travelling to Beinn a’ Chaorainn. The snow cover is patchy with many of the ridges now devoid of snow. The main accumulations are above 800 metres on North to East facing aspects.

Overnight the snowpack firmed up due to clear skies. Shady slopes remained firm while any sunny slopes softened as the day progressed.

Subtle changes in slope aspect made quite a difference. The right pole was on a firm North snow patch and left pole on soft South aspect at 850 metres around 10am.
