The drive to work

SAIS Creag Meagaidh Observer’s rule-of-thumb: if you can see (or even glimpse!) the Post Face when driving towards Aberarder then you know you’re going to have a half decent day. Anecdotal, un-scientific… but hey, it works for me!
Was in the Inner Corrie again today. Benchmark ice routes still not well formed and will be above grade, however ice continues to form. Last Post in Easy Gully still a mere shadow of what it can be like when it’s in its pomp. Good snow-ice in many places though – most recent winds have scoured many routes on the Post Face down to a hard or crusty surface giving good stability and more crampon-friendly surface.
Less windy today (and sunny). Facets still present under recently formed windslab which is of highly variable thickness but now more cohesive forming a stronger ‘bridge’ across the weak layer. Worth keeping your heads up on this because although it may support a little more weight if it does collapse the fracture line will break wide across the slope. Affected areas are steep, sheltered West, NW and some N aspects above 900-950m.
