Square 1…almost

Snow cover is getting close to being back at ‘square 1’.
(Above) The Post Face today after the deluge. Weather cheered up hugely in the early afternoon. Water everywhere though, crags and hillsides alike.

(Above) Coire Chriochairein. Evidence of fairly recent cornice collapse below these East to South East-facing aspects. Some old cornices remain though.
(Above)Â ‘Oui-Oui’ (a well known roadside ice route…when the weather’s really cold) doing its thing on Creag Dubh crag near Newtonmore.
Somewhat counter-intuitively, was noticeably wetter further east today….
(Above) The river Tromie at Tromie Bridge, not far from home, a little east of Kingussie.
(Above) Flood ‘tourists’ enjoying the spectacle at Tromie Bridge this morning. In 20 yrs I’ve never seen the river running with this much water. The burns are all running bankfull 25 miles west at – and near – Creag Meagaidh, but nothing akin to this.
(Above) The gatehouse to the Ardverikie Estate this afternoon. Many of you will recognise this distinctive building next to the A86 and close to where the River Pattack enters Loch Laggan. Seems to have gained a moat.
Much cooler temperatures overnight and a little snow later….unlikely bring much improvement to the very sparse snow cover.

Finally clear skies and the floods around Loch Laggan is slowly reducing. I’ve not seen flooding like this in the 15 years I’ve been coming to Kinloch Laggan.
Come on the cold weather!

Great flood photos.
I’ve only seen the Tromie that high once before, in November 1989 when we had just come to the area.
Never seen the Ardverikie gatehouse that close to being flooded before.
