(Above) The Upper Spey near Spey Dam looking towards Coire Dubh (centre) Coire nan Gall (left) and Coire a Bheinn (just visible far right skyline). Top of the skyline is 900m. Snow limited to patches above around 700m. Pretty sparse cover.
(Above) Looking towards the east end of the Carn Liath ‘whaleback’ from the trig point on Carn Dubh. Coire a Bheinn to the right, Coire Dubh on the left. When the cover’s really good this makes an excellent high level and gentle ski-tour all the way to The Window above Coire Ardair. Approximately 8km of it above 900m. Fairly sparse and patchy cover today though.
(Above) The view down to Loch Laggan. Cloud beginning to build from the west late morning.
(Above) Looking east towards the Cairngorms with Spey Dam and its reservoir in the foreground. Glen Feshie peaks – Carn Ban More, Sgor Gaoith and Sgoran Dubh Mor – still with a cover of thin snow. Same as Cairntoul, Angel’s Peak, both right centre top skyline, Â with Braeriach, left centre skyline. Meall a Bhuachaille, I think (maybe Cairngorm?) on the far left.
Driving back towards the ‘Gorms this afternoon it was obvious the cover is more superficial than it appears in the photo.
