Thursday: colder & windy.

(Above) Lochan a Choire in Coire Ardair. Dull and overcast today with increasingly cold, strong and blustery NE winds. ‘Meggie seemed to escape most of the snow showers other areas received overnight and during the day. Quiet today, too. Some dog walkers in the car park and a just a couple of folk on the Coire Ardair path who braved the occasional snow showers for the dubious pleasure of visiting the windswept lochan.
(Above) A peek up into Raeburn’s Gully. A smearing of ice on the exposed rock in the bottom of the gully where there is normally several metres of snow. Exposed grass everywhere on the talus cone, too, which is usually a deep jumble of old cornice and avalanche debris. Tells you everything you need to know about the paucity of our winter to date.
(Above) More wintry over on the Post Face…just. The two parallel inclined ramps in the photo are the start of Staghorn Gully, these are normally deep with snow and/or névé. More snow is present much higher on the Post Face and some ice is just beginning to reform from the usual weep lines.
Cold and frosty overnight then more snow showers extending into the day from morning onwards.
