Beinn a Chaorainn

(Above) Coire nan Gall & Coire Dubh from Laggan Bridge. Bright start with the sun forcing its way under the cloud this morning. Snow cover looking more mottled now after the recent wet and mild period. Forecasted snow showers didn’t materialise but it was definitely cooler.
(Above) Looking up at Beinn a Chaorainn. Its East Ridge is the skyline, centre of shot.
(Above) Some residual – and now refrozen – cornices overhang the coire to the south of Beinn a Chaorainn’s summit. Quite small compared to what they can become later in the season.
(Above)Â Looking south from the start of Beinn a Chaorainn’s East Ridge. Moist snow up to about 800m then much firmer and crusty higher up. Some weak but uplifting winter sunshine for a time today.
(Above) The view east. An Cearcallach the highest point on the skyline. Beyond and in the far distance are the Gaick hills. The continuous white line on the middle horizon is snow banked up against the Moy Wall. The wall runs up from the A86 (it’s actually a fence down low) up onto Creag na Cailliche and along its ridge right up to within 600m of the summit of Creag Meagaidh.
