Spring-like contrasts

28th February 2011

Above: Shot taken coming off Sron a Ghoire after doing the Creag Mhor ridge/Puist Coire Ardair ’round’. Very contrasty conditions at the moment – the transition from snow to heather/bracken quite distinct. Old avalanche debris from an event over two weeks ago.
Above: Very good shears in the formal pit (and some places elsewhere) today. When you’ve finished poking the snow always a good idea to extend the wall of the pit and then walk across the top of it. This block slid out very easily.

Instability tending to be localised at the moment with excellent stability in many other locations. 2000m freezing level on Tuesday with +4 degrees C. projected summit temperatures.
