White again!

12th January 2020

(Above) Early drive near Laggan am. Snow showers overnight; with some heavier ones from first light and snow for a period to all levels.

(Above) Sron a Ghoire. Between the am showers – a light cover of snow now on the hills

(Above) Looking back on Lochan a Choire from the slopes towards the Inner Coire Ardair. Poor conditions on higher ground for much of the morning…

(Above) Homeward from Coire Ardair and (as usual) some clearing periods at last between the showers;  Cairn Liath plateau.

‘There has been a fresh light cover of new snow at all elevations; in most instances this has fallen on bare ground, although some drifting is now taking place at higher elevations. Here localised instabilities exist as areas of windslab begin to build and achieve depth on steep, mainly, sheltered N to E aspects above 850m. Good stability on West facing slopes and many ridges where scouring of windward exposed areas noted from the strong winds today’

More scouring expected tomorrow with storm force conditions in summits areas
