Very wintry again

19th March 2013

(Above) Very different in the glen compared to plateau today. Loads of drifting and really cold temperatures up high.
(Above) Plenty of this above 700m
(Above) Very long and very deep shooting cracks close to the pit site. Light pressure from my boot initiated this. Facetted crystals lie at the bottom of the snowpack and not just under newer windslab either.
(Above) More widespread cracking again from light foot pressure.
(Above) The Post Face. Coire Ardair. Strong Easterly winds have stripped a lot of snow off the tops of many East-facing gullies and scarp slopes but lower down on the same aspect localised areas of older weak windslab persists.
(Above) Ice-a-plenty and looking very blue in places.
