Flattering to deceive

My Creag Meagaidh 'glade skiing' fantasy........

My Creag Meagaidh ‘glade skiing’ fantasy……..

........abruptly terminated.

……..abruptly terminated.

One day I’ll do it, it’s just a matter of time. I have this fantasy that I’ll be able to ski the trees somewhere on our patch at Creag Meagaidh…at least once. (Properly ski them, not just a couple of desperate turns to avoid tree roots and boulders). Almost managed it in the winter of 2009/10 but the snowpack had full ‘trouser-filling’ potential so had to pass on it.

However, there is an area of birch woodland in Coire Chrannaig which showed promise today, or so I thought….Open tree cover from 500m down to 350m over half a kilometre (not much vertical but good enough for Scotland) + pretty good new snow cover = game on, surely?

Sadly not.

Deep, wet porridge with a soft crust beneath 10cms of fresh stuff does-not-a-good-ski-descent-make. Flattering to deceive again.

(I fully expect to be inundated with messages claiming successful glade skiing at Creag Meagaidh. Your claims will be no good without photographic evidence!)

Don’t worry I was struggling with dense plantation skiing on the north side of Ben More today…even high up struggling with the windslab….. I was doing so well at Glenshee!
