Friday’s heavy thaw.

22nd January 2016

Icicles1(Above) Full on melt today at Meggie.

Path(Above) Melting ice and rainfall combo gave rise to bouts of spontaneous divvy dancing and foul language on the walk in this morning!

CApath(Above) Dreich morning. Path little better.

Lifa(Above) Lifa Gully in Coire Chriochairein. Ice is hanging on in there at approx 800m bottom right of photo. Gradual improvement in weather and visibility after midday.

stone1(Above) Coire Chriochairein. Weather starting to clear. Effective snow line is at about 700m though with odd patches and ribbons extending down below that altitude. Snow loss has been dramatic at lower levels.

Tonight I was surprised to see just how little snow there is a lower levels, although there seems plenty snow glistening in the moonlight at Creag Meagaidh.
