Winter still on….

11th February 2018

(Above) Fresh winslab building again over recent avalanche paths on Sron a Ghoire’s front face

(Above) Upper slopes Sron a Ghoire to Puist Coire Ardair – scouring on open slopes and ridges

(Above) Looking across from today’s pit site to the Min Window, on the other (Cairn Liath) side of the range. Lots of snow shifting about and settling in these high sheltered, lee areas.

(Above) Plumes of snow being moved around today in summits areas

(Above) Balloon Gully.  One of our ‘handy’ sampling sites  Unstable cornices forming on many such East facing aspects.

(Above) Looking down onto Coire Ardair valley floor and up towards Coire a Chriochairein. Snowy underfoot from around 400m – from which skis a useful option for access. Staying cold in the immediate, with more snow yet to come – winter still on…..
