Wet and thawing at most levels

14th December 2020

Covid-19

The Scottish Avalanche Information Service would recommend that those wishing to enjoy the winter mountains refer to Mountaineering Scotland and Scottish Government advice regarding Covid-19 and outdoor activities.

(Above) An East aspect in Coire Chriochairein today. Narrow ribbons of thawing snow descend down to 750m (or so) in parts of Coire Ardair and locations like the one in the photo above.

(Above) A South aspect in this same reliable snow-holding coire. The freezing level hovered around summits but it was thawing at most levels today aided & abetted by steady rainfall and attested to by the waterfall.

(Above) A misty glimpse of the business end of Coire Ardair. Easy Gully on the Post Face is right of centre and snow-wise is looking a little sorry for itself.
