One step forward / one back

13th December 2021

The weather can’t quite seem to make it’s mind up just at the moment!

One day it’s rain turning to snow / the next snow turning to rain….

Unfortunately the latter the current cycle for tomorrow.

(Above) Coire Na Gall , as seen from the A86, alongside Loch Laggan .A promising start with some fresh snow overnight- albeit just a plateau dusting.

(Above) Still ‘promising’. Coire Ardair’s Post Face . Obscured for the most part ,with frequent snow showers coming through the area after midday.

(Above) Clearing breaks – revealing a dusting on the crags with some drifting and re-deposited accumulations on  upper reaches ,around the coire rims. Any such build up to be short lived;  a forecast for milder conditions and rising freezing levels with rain to all levels tomorrow. Wet snow instabilities will result in these areas during a period of transitional instability from first light. Thereafter probably just a soggy but reasonably stable snowpack…..
