Clearing with sun between the showers
21st February 2022
Not a bad day, in spite of the damp start and rain below 700 metres. At lower elevations the snowpack is now diminishing in a steady thaw ,with wet snow the order of the day. Good cover still remains above this however and the conditions had a distinct spring snow feel to them.

(Above) Looking South from Gael-charn (917m) down the line of the A9, as it winds between An Torc or ‘ Boar of Badenoch’ (739m) and the mottled West facing hillside of Creagan Doire Dhonaich, Drumochter East.

(Above) Thawing to around 700m today. Severals ski touring parties out and about on Gael-charn (917m) – catching a few turns and even rays between the showers.

(Above) Things improved as the day progressed. Overnight a temperature rise to above summits will be followed by a re-freeze and the FL dropping to around 400m . Will likely turn these slopes from their current soggy goo to a teeth rattling ride above 750 metres. Glad we got our turns in today. Enjoy!
