Spring About To Relapse

8th March 2022

Another day of spring conditions but with strong South-Easterly winds making it feel a bit colder. Plenty of snow above 600 metres, softening in the sun but not as much as in recent days especially higher up.

Change ahead, as from this evening, with the strong winds increasing, hill snow and blizzard conditions. As always, please read the full report for details. A bit of a relapse to winter conditions.

A wander up Allt Coire Choille-rais towards the SE ridge

Cold overnight at most levels

Looking across to Creag Mhor with the main accumulations of snow above 600 metres

SE ridge leading to Meall Coire Choille-rais summit

Cornice collapse on East aspect now a few days ago

Glancing back up to An Cearcallach

    Climbed staghorn today.
I’m an MIC, big creep line in the cornice above final gully. Not tremendously overhanging but would not be good if it warmed up too much. Thanks for the great reports.
    Cheers Stu
